Nightlife in Sligo Town

Myself and a friend are planning a 3 or 4 night stay in Sligo in the middle of June, and are wondering what the best nights are for a night out, as in pubs and clubs. We are trying to be there for a weekend, but that is proving difficult, so are there any mid-week nights that are good for a night out?

Also any advice on where to go would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

What are you after? Traditional music/live bands/house music?

Clarence Hotel: House/dance music

Velvet: Only open fri/sat/sun nightclub, pop music

Envy: Younger crowd

The strand (Standhill) Usually have live bands. Good pub- out in the surfing end of Sligo.

Shoot the Crows: Good for Guinness and a chat, can get v busy especially at the weekend

The Left Bank- just reopened after being closed for a year. Used to have music at the weekends. Probably a good spot for an early drink, if weather is good you can sit out by the river

McLynns: Weekends the owner plays trad music etc, old style pub

Hargadons: Another old style pub- defo worth the visit

If you go on a drive out to Raghly to the old pier, panoramic views of Sligo- really beautiful. On the way back could stop at Lauras in Carney, definitely one of the best places in Sligo for a Guinness. Also they do good food and have a beer garden

Recommend climbing Knocknarae, its 40 mins up and 15 mins down, great views, only do it on a clear day.

Drive out to Coney Island- (access from Strandhill Road) You will have to know the tides for this as you dont want to get caught out there.

GO horse-riding out in Grange, Island View is the name of the stables. The country trek or beach trek are the best

Go see Glencar waterfall- technically in Leitrim, lovely drive- (dangerous bendy road though so drive carefully)

Strandhill: Go for a seaweed bath at Voya spa. detox and v relaxing. You can share a bath or have a room each.

Rossespoint: walk the beaches. Used to be more lively out here but it is still a nice place to go (watch sunset etc). Harrys bar for a pint if open (after 5pm)

Drumcliff: Go see Yeats Grave.

Lough Gill: Parkes Castle and the Isle of Innisfree. Can do a boat trip out here.

Benbulben: Can be climbed at Ballintrillick. Best bet is to stop on the way there and ask the locals about where to climb and if it is boggy up there. Ballintrillick also has one of those hills where you park you car on a hill put car in neutral and it takes u up the hill.

Mullaghmore: Lovely seaside fishing village. drive the coast road, lovely beach, sit down by the pier and watch teh fishermen come back. Lord Mountbattons castle sits up on a hill near there. The drive from sligo to Mullaghmore is lovely too. V scenic.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help

Enjoy!

joyceel - Thank you very much for the information. There is a lot of it! All very helpful! I'm sure we'll find loads to do when we are there!

We were trying to find out if there is any kind of nightlife during the week - any ideas? We're not specially going just to have nights out, but one or two wouldn't go wrong!

Thanks again!

During the week Envy is probably the place- it is open every night. It is quite studenty but it has about 3 different dance floors etc.

Also the link to the sligo weekender and the champion would give you lots of info on what live music etc is on in the town

Enjoy!
