Bus routes Sudeley Castle/Winchcombe to Gloucester?

We will be staying at Sudeley Castle cottages near Winchcombe in October. We want to visit Gloucester Cathedral. Is there a bus that will take us round trip? We will have a car but I've experienced trying to park in Winchester and Bath so I know parking is tough to find and expensive.

Or perhaps there is a park and ride?

There's no direct bus. It's a bit over an hour each way if you change bus (and bus stop) at Cheltenham. Timings are erratic, but roughly hourly : see www.transportdirect.info

There's no P&R (car parks at www.gloucester.gov.uk/Website/Parking/CarParksinGloucester/CarParksinGloucester.aspx): there is cheaper parking away from the centre, but it's a nuisance then getting into town. Gloucester, like Winchester, is neither particularly difficult nor expensive to find parking in: they're simply typical English towns. It's usually easiest not to worry about preplanning where to park, but just to accept it's going to take a while to find a space (follow the signs) and accept a day's parking is going to cost £5-£10.

Thank you so much! I guess we'll plan to drive. Any other advice about the area?

If it helps, the times of the buses from Winchcombe to Cheltenham can be found here: www.castleways.co.uk/Castleways606Ttable.pdf . Buses from there to Gloucester run every 10 minutes.

Have a look here for car parking in Gloucester: gloucester.gov.uk/LGNL/…Parking.aspx

There's a large open air one near the cathedral that's easy to get in and out of if you're coming from St Oswalds road. Click on the link to the downloadable map. I'd definitely drive - it'll take you ages to get there on the bus.

While you're in Gloucester, the docks area is worth a look round.

If you like the cathedral - consider visiting Tewkesbury. It has a lovely abbey and you can have a wander by the river. It's about a 20 min drive from Winchcombe.
