Weekend break in Gloucester

Hi, having a short break in Gloucester soon. I'm interested in Real Ale pubs, good pubs doing really good pub food, fine dining and any unusual establishments like smokehouses, places with great views. I don't really eat Indiasn or Chinese out. I likje English, French, very good Italians and places with a leaning towards fish dishes. I like very good quality and I am happy to pay for good food. Any recommendations? I keep finding Indian and Chinese and I am not keen on the number 1 Gloucester restaurant as I don't like the African menu.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The New Inn is easy to find from where you're staying. Just head straight up Southgate St to The Cross (centre of town) and carry on for about 100 yards in Northgate St. New Inn is on the right hand side. No more than 15 minutes amble. 10 minutes at a decent pace.

Yes, of course. I'll do that as soon as I get chance after I've been. Looking forward to it and appreciate all the suggestions.
