Bar recommendation?

We are staying as a group of friends for a one night spa break at the Hallmark hotel (slightly regretting this after recent reviews!) are there any nice bars within a short taxi ride from this hotel?

You could take pot uck in Gloucester, or why not take a taxi up the hill to Painswick, a pretty cotswold village with a couple of "country" pubs and restuarants. about 15 mins drive up the lanes in a taxi, just book him to come back and collect you! Search Painswick on tripadvisor or google.

Thanks, have been to Painswick before. Was thinking of a more upmarket bar than a country pub. Is there anything like this in Gloucester?!

Nothing very 'up market' in the way of bars in Gloucester. Maybe Portivo Lounge at The Quays? Definitely nothing up-market within walking distance of the Hallmark!

I'm with the other posts: Gloucester and upmarket don't really go together. Painswick does have (or did, its been a while) an upmarket hotel. This may be your best bet.

Maybe consider a taxi into Cheltenham, it's not a massive distance and you'd have many more options

Go to Gloucester docks. A couple of pretty decent bars, and plenty of eateries. Try the Portivo Lounge and Fosters. Do NOT let anybody recommend Eastgate street.

Failing this, as much as it pains me to say it, try Cheltenham for upmarket bars.
