Manchester G Casino: New Bury Road

Hi

I will soon be coming to Manchester - and try as I might to check out the bus planner on the tfgm website, it's beaten me - so I am after some local knowledge.

Ok - I am staying near Picadilly Stn (Sackville Street I think) - and I would probably want to visit the casino (as per my subject title) - I believe it is about 2.5 miles away - however, the metrolink network does not seem to go anywhere near it - therefore, I was wondering what buses ran anywhere in the vicinity and also whether there was any nightbus availability?

Also - is the area near the casino safe - looking on googlemaps - it seems a rather run down area of the city?

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers

B

Hi,

It's not far out of the city centre - just past Strangeways prison.

There are plenty of buses that go along Bury New Road - Witchway buses are worth checking http://www.lancashirebus.co.uk/?subSiteID=7

If you're going to the casino, presumably to gamble, isn't £5 in a cab to get there an option?

It's not the greatest area, but is often quite busy until quite late if there's something on at the arena (which there usually is). Personally I'd use cabs after midnight.

Hope that helps.

Pete

There are about six good casinos in the city centre.

Circus casino is probably my favourite and not much more than a five minute walk from your hotel.

The G casino is good but - unless you're meeting someone specific there - no better than any of the closer ones.

235 is very good (with very good looking clientele!) but often has the highest table minimums (often £5.00 to £10.00 for blackjack). The cheapest are in Chinatown - some with a £1.00 minimum table.

I am already a member of G casino in my home town - hence no need to bring ID to Manchester - thanks for the message about the incorrect address - I think I took it from their website.

G casino is about a not that easy to get to via buses. I live just off the road and the only reliable buses that go up there are the Lancashire way buses, They are about every 30 mins at night however i would advise just getting a taxi as much easier from where you are staying and the area isn't the safest. Shouldn't cost you more than £10 even on a night

You don't need ID to join any of the casinos in Manchester. They check the electoral role and if you're on at the address you give, you're in. Takes all of five minutes. Takes two minutes if you bring a driving licence or passport.

There's also a Grosvenor on Whitworth Street which is around five minutes walk from your hotel. In fact, it might be the closest depending on where you're staying.

I will check out the other Grosvenor - did not know about that.

I didn't particular want to walk around with my passport/DL - but as LMV says, maybe Manchester235 is the way to go.
