Picadilly to Old Trafford

Hi,

A group of 4 of us are coming to Manchester to watch the Paul Scholes Testimonial on Friday 5th August.

We are staying at the Mint Hotel, so my question is: Whats our best option regarding getting to Old Trafford (and back)?

Also, we may go to Piccolinos for an early tea (eat say 5pm) -what are options from this area?

Thanks

Tram from Piccadilly gardens You can either get the Eccles tram to Media city. Then its a 10- 15 minute walk. Or you can get the Altrincham tram, again from Piccadilly gardens, get off at Old Trafford. This takes you to Old Trafford cricket ground. Follow the crowd to the ground, again about 10 mins walk.

From Piccolino's best walking to St Peters square, just behind the town hall, and getting tram from there.

I am going to the game myself, I park at the Lowry Outlet mall, which is the media city side and walk over. Theres a few eating and drinking options there too if you want to get there early and soak up the atmosphere pre-match.

Hi,

Follow the instructions above, but if you are going from The Mint Hotel, catch the tram at Piccadilly Station. The station is next to your hotel.

It's worth noting, for four of you, a taxi wouldn't cost much more than the tram.

Good luck!

Just be warned that as Metrolink have now opened the line down to Chorlton they are short of trams to double up after special events - as anyone who used the tram on 9th July (when England played cricket at Old Trafford) will tell you.

Some people prefer to make the longer walk to and from Salford Quays but be aware that the BBC are now using Media:City to film programmes so the trams on that line may also be full if television audiences are arriving/departing.
