Hi,

I believe that the single fare is £3.10 and the off peak return fare is £3.50.

Good luck!

Those fares quoted are about three years out-of-date. Off peak returns were £3.50 in 2007/08. The current fares are below:

Altrincham-Central Manchester:

Peak Return: £5.60

Off-Peak Return: £4.00

Single (at any time): £3.80

Since the Chorlton line opened tram times between Altrincham and Manchester have slowed down by about 3 minutes as they have to stop at the new junction between Old Trafford and Trafford Bar.

The ordinary train is cheaper by around 50p, takes around the same amount of time but is a lot less frequent.

If you're doing something like Carlisle-Altrincham then it will be a few pounds cheaper to buy a Carlisle-Altrincham train ticket over a Carlisle-Manchester plus a Manchester-Altrincham Metrolink ticket.

Also if you travel by Metrolink you must buy a ticket before you board as there is a £100 fine if you're caught travelling and don't have a valid ticket - not that ticket inspections are that common.
