Where can we meet relative for coffee prior to flight

We are driving from Ambleside on a Monday morning (in May) to Manchester Airport. Our Emirates flight leaves at 2:10pm. Prior to this, we will need to return our hire car, check in our luggage and claim back our VAT. We also want to meet up with a relative for morning tea and chat. Where could we meet up with our relative after dropping off the car (we haven't decided on hire car firm yet). Are there any cafes at Terminal 1 before check in or can anyone offer suggestions?

There are no cafes in T1 before arrivals.

Car return for all the main companies at Man T1 is on the top floor of the multi story short stay car park.

If you take the lift to arrivals on the ground floor rather than departures there is a cafe there which you could use which looks nice enough.

Alternatively there is a Costa Coffee before departures in T3 which is a 2-3 minute walk from T1.

Another idea would be to meet at one of the airport hotels. The Radisson is linked to T1 by a walkway and again is just a few minutes away and they have a small bar/lounge area you could use.

So long as your meet-up is not just a brief hello / goodbye, I would go to the Radisson; nice place and I seem to remember they have flight departure screens there for you to check your flight.

The Radisson is definitley a good place to meet, as it is far more spacious and relaxed than any of the coffee shops in the terminal. The Radisson is connected to all terminals and to the train station by a covered moving walkway.

We don't intend for it to be short - an hour or more is what we plan but obviously will depend on how easy the drive is from Ambleside. The Radisson sounds like a good idea. Do you think they will be fine with us having our luggage with us?

You will be in a hotel. People having luggage with them is not unusual :-)

Oh yes, they are quite used to piles of luggage everywhere! Don't let that put you off.

They even have the official airport trolleys there and a stand to get your pound deposit back (like for supermarket trolleys - although I read they're going to start retaining the £1soon...the airport, not just the hotel).
