New Years Eve

We are going to Manchester for New Years Eve, arriving on 31st early morning for two nights. Will alot of places till be open New Years Eve to do a little sightseeing, perhaps a bus tour etc? We are going to book The Premier Inn Central on Mosley Street, is this a good central location? Finally, can someone recommend a good pub to ring in the New Year with a dj and good party atmosphere!

Hi there, I think that it is brilliant that you want to see in the New Year in Manchester and I hope that you have a great time here! The Premier Inn Central is in an excellent location within the city centre. There is also a Jurys Inn close by if you need a second choice.

Lots of places will be open on New Year's Eve especially the bars and the shops will be open a little later on New Year's Day if you have a mind to look around them. There may not be a bus tour but most places in the city centre are within walking distance except for the sports venues like Manchester United which you can get to by the metro tram system or taking a taxi.

LMV is right that most venues have not announced their NYE plans at present but if we hear of anything we will post it on here for you. A good place to look is a website called Manchester Confidential.

In the meantime enjoy what you can of the summer!

What is the easiest option to get from the airport to our Premier Inn Hotel (Central Convention Complex) on New Years Eve? We are arriving early in the morning around 9am, so once we've dropped our bags, we are planning to do a little shopping before we can check in as unfortunately there will be no bus tours operating that day. What shopping centre is best for our location?

Hi,

Catch a train from the airport station to Piccadilly Station and then an Altrincham, Eccles, or Media City tram to St Peter's Square. Your hotel is a couple of minutes from that tram stop.

The trains and trams are very frequent, the train fare is £3.80 and the same ticket can used on the tram to St Peter's Square.

Your hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the main shopping areas, which are around Market Street, The Arndale Centre and Deansgate.

Good luck and enjoy your trip.

Trying to plan out our two day trip at the end of the year, arriving 31st Dec 9am, once we've dropped our bags at PI Central hotel we plan to go to the Arndale Centre for a wander around the shops, can anyone suggest where we might get a full English?

Hopefully around lunchtime we'll be able to check into our hotel and get an hour or two nap (as I'll have been at a Hen the night before at home!).

To ring in the New Year we are thinking of heading towards the Deansgate area, perhaps to the Slug and Lettuce? Any suggestions?

I've read there are no fireworks in Manchester this NYE which is disappointing.

On New Years day we were thinking of going to the Northern Quarter, i've been told this area is very casual and nice for long lunches/day drinking. We also plan to visit The Gay Village by Canal Street too hopefully.

Any recommendations, suggestions or alternatives to the above greatly appreciated.

As a stress free (and cheap) alternative to town you should consider this night at a converted chapel just near Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield http://skdl.it/SHTZ6S

Near to a fair few decent hotels (the landsdowne is probably the best of the bunch) and a night of classic tunes, what could be better?
