Manchester Airport

We are travelling from Shannon, Ireland to Brisbane via Manchester in 2 weeks and will have an 11 hr delay at Manchester.

We are flying with Aer Lingus from Shannon to Manchester and with Etihad the rest of the way. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children. The trip is all on the one ticket so hope that our bags can be "through checked" from Shannon..

We wondered if we are allowed to leave Manchester Airport during this time or do we have to stay at the Airport for Security reasons or whatever..

Any suggestions or information for things to do would be really great...

Hi,

I can't help the with first part of your question, you may get a better response on The Airlines forum.

All being well, I would head for the city centre. The airport rail station is connected to the terminals and the journey to the city centre takes around 20 minutes. The trains are very frequent with a return adult fare of around £4.00.

Things to do, The Christmas markets cover a large part of the city centre at the moment, they are well worth seeing.

I think that the children would love a visit to The Museum of Science and Industry, it's a vast museum in the city centre and very child friendly.

Good luck!
