Recreational suggestions for Manchester...

I'll be in Manchester for a couple of United games (Tuesday to Sunday, 5 day stay), looking for some suggestions for activities during the day and evenings that the games are not on. Grateful for any suggestions, no matter how off the wall. I've been to Manchester numerous times so I've done a lot of the obvious tourist stuff. Looking for the lesser known options for a visitor to the city.

The National Football Museum has moved to Manchester in the last year or so (don't know when you last visited)

I'll link to TA's "Attractions" list - could be something there that you've missed previously & suits:

Have you been out to Salford Quays? Other side of the Ship Canal to Old Trafford - very modern, home to the Lowry (theatre & gallery), Media City (BBC, ITV etc) & just across from the Imperial War Museum North. Easily reached by tram (or bus).

There are guided walks (mainly in the city centre, but some beyond) - some very general, others more specialised (football, politics, music etc) - again they could introduce you to less well known areas. Links for two operators:

Thanks for the suggestions, I had planned on going to the football museum. Unfortunately a lot of the tours seem to wrap up the week before I go but there are some scheduled for the week I am there so I can avail of those. Thanks again, some quality suggestions I must say, none of which I would have been likely to stumble across on my own.

There are some decent areas outside town (20 minute tram or bus ride) such as Didsbury village or Burton Rd,Chorlton, eclectic areas full of bars and restaurants .

Don't for get too that Chester and Liverpool are only 1 hr away on the train.

Maybe a ride up to Haworth home of the Brontes or Chatsworth in Derbyshire.

Plenty of cinemas etc

Unfortunately the weathers going to be crap, but it is Manchester.

Hope you enjoy .
