Premier Inn Portland St or Holiday Inn Express MEN

Hi, me and a friend will be visiting Manchester for a weekend in April and would appreciate advice on choosing our hotel.

We are considering Premier Inn Portland Street or the Holiday Inn Express at MEN arena.

Neither of us have been before so are unfamiliar with the area.

We want to be within close walking distance to shopping, bars and restaurants and not need to use public transportation. We won't have cars with us.

Which is the better hotel and location? We are two women so want somewhere safe.

Any advice appreciated!

There's little difference, both are in the city centre. The Holiday Inn is closer to the Arndale Centre, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and The Northern Quarter. The Premier Inn is close to Chinatown, but reading the reviews, a few people mention the street noise late at night.

There's building work taking place at the side of The Holiday Inn, so if you decide on that hotel, try and get a room away from that site.

There are three more Premier Inns in the city centre, all well placed for the shops, bars and restaurants, have you considered those?
