Car hire

Hello Forum

Looking for some advice

Planning a 3 night stay in Manchester in early November . Whilst in the city , will just use taxis or public transport while staying in a Central city hotel.

We then want to travel to Lakes District

Can someone suggest where we would find a car hire place to pick up a car for a week.

Have looked on line and not sure of locations, thinking a bit out of Central Manchester may be less stressful for pick up and return

Would get a taxi to the car hire pick up , as public transport and suitcase lugging doesn't appeal.

Thanks for any assistance

Try Thrifty, they'll pick you up from the terminal and drive you the few mins to their depot. Book through the co.uk website for best prices that include insurance.

We've just used them, excellent service.

When your in Manchester look at www.tfgm.com for all transport needs. That is a great site which covers all types of public transport, tram, buses etc. It has info on tickets and fares and timetables etc. There is also a free bus that covers the city centre. This is called the Metroshuttle and has three routes around the city centre.

Manchester City centre is pretty compact and all very walkable.

If you do need to use the train to get to the Lake District or from the airport look at www.nationalrail.co.uk/

This has plenty of info on times, fares, journey planners etc.

I think post #1 thought you were renting from the airport. I think you need to decide on if you are going to fly to Paris or take the train. If flying then renting from the airport is not a bad idea as you will have to also drop off there hence no one way fee. If you are going to take the train then renting from near Piccadilly Station would make sense. Avis, Hertz, Sixt and Budget are all in the area.

Enterprise claim they will you pick you up from your hotel and take you to the car rental outlet.(this taken from website, but check: "If you need a lift, we'll be happy to pick you up and drive you to our location. Just book your vehicle online, then call us on Tel.: 0161-2308223, and we'll be happy to assist you. Pick up is subject to certain geographic restrictions"). They have locations which are a bit out of Manchester city centre (e.g. Heald Green; Bury New Road; Leigh) so they may be worth a look to see if they fit the bill...
