Air France: "Pay for 2nd bag"

I'll try again -- the first time, my full title was cut off:

The ongoing thread about Air France service, and various other threads about “what to pack and wear,” etc., make me think of this little bit of news, for those of us to fly economy class:

“Air France will introduce a fee for passengers checking in a second bag. The fee will be $50 for all flights departing from the USA and 50 euros for all flights departing from Europe. Some exemptions apply.”

(See airfrance.us/US/…pc_2009_secondbagfee.htm )

Why is this news? The airlines are hurting bad,

$50 may seem high for the first charge, but its not that different from airlines that charge for the 1st bag and then increase the rate after that. For instance, Delta charges go $15, $25, $125 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd bags on domestic flights.

The $ 50 will apply to all tickets sell after November 01, 2009.It is a little high.
