4 day road trip Bretagne/Normandy

Hello, two friends and I would like to plan a 4-day road trip to take in some sights including Mont St Michel, St Malo, Bayeux, Normandy beaches, possibly.

We will have a car (starting in Burgundy) on Saturday May 8 and will be returning to Paris on Wednesday May 12.

Would appreciate very much if you could suggest an itinerary and also where we could stay (3 people, can stay in the same room).

Thank you!

The Burgundy Region is a large one and it's quite a haul from there to Brittany/Normandy so your 4 days are going to 'go' fast.

Considering that most of the places you would like to visit are in Normandy though, I'd only visit the little bit of Brittany that you have mentioned, and this is how I might go about it.

Day 1 - Let us choose Dijon as your 'nebulous' start point as this is fairly central within the Burgundy region. Drive to Nevers, then follow the Loire up to Orleans, heading for Chartres. Stay there overnight, it's a nice City for an evening wander, some good restaurants and a FAB Cathederal.

Day 2 - if you did not get IN there the night before, pay a visit to the interior of Chartres Cathederal, then set off on your Drive again - this is a 'go for it' drive with no stopping (for sightseeing that is) - but go via Le Mans, Laval & Rennes up to St Malo. Hopefully you will reach St Malo in good time to walk around the ramparts of the old town and have a nice dinner 'Intra Muros'.

Day 3 - If you still need to, mooch around St Malo for an hour or 2, then head for Le Mont St Michel, and explore there until you have had enough, then drive across to stay in Arromanches if possible, this puts you right in the centre of the D-Day beaches, in fact you will be staying AT one of them.

Day 4 - Drive around the beaches, enjoying what you can before heading back to Paris when the light fades..... ah well!

You could do an alternative route :

Day 1 - Go from Dijon to Bourges then follow the River Cher past Chateau Chennonceaux , then Tours to Saumur. a lovely City with a compact centre good for restaurants, lovely wine and general mooching around for an evening.

Day 2 - Drive via Angers, Rennes to St Malo and then continue as before for the rest of the day at St Malo

Day 3 - more St Malo if necessary, and then Le Mont St Michel - then perhaps an overnight in Bayeux

Day 4 - spend the morning in Bayeux but then you have less time to explore the VAST area of the D-Day landings it depends which means more to YOU really...... then the light will fade and it is back to Paris, tired but happy travellers - goodbye!!

OF COURSE there is nothing stopping you from driving from "Burgundy" direct to St Malo in one hit, but it is a helluvadrive and you are going to be so exhausted at the end of it, you are not really going to enjoy your Normandy time much IMO.
