Hi there

We used Le Boat last year and found them terrific to deal with - the boat was great as was the canal trip itself - up there as one of my favourite holidays.

Kind Regards

Taking a French canal barge trip is an unforgettable "life in the slow lane" experience - completely unlike the mass market large cruise ships or European river cruises.

We just finished a delightful week on the barge, "Luciole" in the Burgundy region. The food is wonderfully French, the off-the-main-tourist-route towns and villages a step back into old France and its cultural history - crewed by a warm, friendly team of experts who have risen sustained excellence to a new level.

A tip (I have no affiliation with this organization) - (first Google)/contact "The Barge Lady," (aka "Ellen") a Chicago-based agency that specializes in barge itineraries and boats throughout France and elsewhere in Europe. She is an extraordinarily helpful expert who has received many accolades (e.g., Conde Naste) for her work. We recommend her and the Luciole with great enthusiasm.

I have also booked a barge cruise through The Barge Lady. However, I believe all of her barge cruises have a crew on board, rather than barges that people drive themselves. I worked with Ellen Sack, the owner of the company. She is a wealth of knowledge about barging, and we booked a luxurious cruise on the Prosperite in the fall of 2012. I am fairly well traveled, and this was the trip of a lifetime. Ellen was so pleasant to deal with, and she responded to my questions within 5 minutes. They run a very professional operation, I would suggest using her to book a barge cruise.

Carol -

Thanks for your input about Ellen Sack, aka "The Barge Lady." We have highly recommended her to friends and acquaintances - and the feedback from them has been gushing praise -- and thanks to us for referring her. Apart from Ellen's dedication to her clients, what she brings to the table is a wealth of personal experiences since she and her staff have been on many of the barges. It is easy to see why she gets accolades for her service and seemingly "small things" that make these wonderful French vacations such a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
