II'll be going to north east France, (Champagne,Alsace-Lorraine, Burgundy). Can I travel freely by bus and train or do I need to rent a car. Thank You for any help

It depends on exactly which places you intend to visit. There are good train services to almost all large towns and many medium-sized ones. But public transport to small villages is likely to be sparse.

While the regions of Champagne and Alsace-Lorraine are in North East France, Burgundy is not!

Are there particular things you wish to see/visit in the first two areas? How much time do you have for this trip?
