Road Trip around France - end of August, beginning of Sept

Hi all,

Me and my boyfriend are planning on doing a 2 week road trip around France at the end of August/beginning of September. We haven't planned the trip out fully yet but we are hoping to go to some, if not all, of the following places:

- Calais to Champagne

- Burgundy

- Nice

- Cannes

- Marseille

- Montpellier

- Bordeaux

- Loire Valley

- Chartres

First of all, does anyone know if this would be doable in just over 2 weeks? What are the best things to see along our route? We're interested in good food and drink (we definitely want to visit a French vineyard!) and hope to see some beautiful sights along the way. We're in our late twenties/early thirties. We hope to stay in B&Bs along the way to get a truly unique French experience.

From the research we have done, we know that August can be a busy time on the roads as French schools are closed but will this affect our journeys too much?

Grateful for any help or advice :)

One suggestion: try to avoid driving on the last day of August/first day of September, when all the vacationing Europeans will be headed back home. Traffic is a nightmare then.

You have a very ambitious itinerary for just 2 weeks. I suggest eliminating Bordeaux and Montpellier so you spend your time primarily in eastern France. Getting from the Bordeaux area across to the other places on your list will eat up precious time, as there is no good direct route.
