5 days in southwest France-itinerary

Hi everyone!

I will be in SW France with a friend for 5 days in mid-October (sometime between 17-26). We will take a train form Paris, then rent a car. We've both done the Riviera and Provence, so now we want to venture into Bordeaux/Montpellier.

He does not drink. We like hiking, history, and art. and any festivals/concerts!

We're thinking of day trips to:

Carcassone

Perpignan

Montpellier

Biarritz

Nimes

Any good hiking places? Anywhere you simply would not miss? A scenic drive would be great too if you know of a place with great foliage!

Of the towns ou mention, Barritz is a bit out on a limb.. The others are more or less spread along the Mediterranian coast or just inland. Personall I would drop Biarritz and add Toulouse which is a much more historic city.
