What part of France has the best weather?

Hi I am looking for some advice as to where to go in France in late July into August, we went to Sequoia Parc, Marennes, Saint Just - Luzac this year and the weather was fantastic. We used the ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo and traveled for 5 1/2 hours with stops to get to out destination. We wondered if we could use the Eurotunnel and travel for around 7/8 hours to get to our destination what kind of weather we could expect, where could we end up and could anyone recommend a fab site? Or if we were to use the ferry again, where would be a great place to go?

Thanks in advance for any information you can give me!

You cannot predict the weather in France, just like you cannot predict the weather in UK.

Our rule of thumb is that the weather gets warmer when you get South of Lyon and is often wetter on the west coast than the east side due to the Atlantic... just like Britain.

That said, it isn't any more predicatable than Britain... here we reckon on Scotland usually having cooler weather than Cornwall or Kent, but it's not guaranteed!

Thank you for your reply, I will take a look at the Bilbao crossing as we would like to try to get the best weather possible!

The weather is supposed to be dryer/warmer "au sud de la Loire" but all you can get is likelyhoods. There's also microclimates to take into account, and knowing where major winds might be expected.

We usually reckon on better weather as we draw level with Valence as we drive south on the autoroute whatever the time of year. For anyone who doesn't suffer from seasickness, the Bilbao route is a very good suggestion.

In summer the Cote d'Azur has almost unbroken sunshine and very long periods without any rain at all. But on the downside August in particular can occasionally be miserably hot.

I often read about 300++ days of sunshine; some awfully hot, as you say - and then think how many storms we've seen in some of those places!
