long term rent in northern france

Hi folks, i am searching the net for my brother who is being transferred to Luxembourg to work early next year, he is looking for a house to rent in Northern France - as doesnt mind commuting up to 1.5hrs into Luxembourg. The questions i am asking is which areas do people recommend (for himself and his wife, and of course room for me to visit regularly). I have had a quick look on the net but not having much luck so any advice on where to live, and any links to websites would be amazing. He aims to rent for a good while until he decides if he is actually going to buy in the near future and sell his home in England. Thanks people xx

He should look at the petites annonces in local newspapers and check out De Particulier à Particulier, plus local agences immobiliers.

Thanks for your speedy reply. He is actually still in uk until he goes out in the new year when work will put him in a hotel in Luxembourg until he finds somewhere. So not able to check out papers unless you can view online. Regard

There's also www.seloger.com

Again, it's in French, but it's fairly easy to navigate around it. "Location" is rental and "vente" is for sale. "Loyer" is rental cost, usually monthly ("mensuel"). Click on "Carte de France" up top to select area.

In terms of the area near Luxemburg, the only reasonable size city with a critical mass of things going on is Metz. If he's looking for a small quiet place to stay, then obviously there are quite a few towns and villages.
