Southern France vs. Spain

Hello,

This is a vague question but I have 7 days in June in France and am looking at doing Southern France starting in Nice and then spending 2 days in Barcelona. Does anyone have an itinerary of stops you did in Southern France?

Or do you like a Spain trip is better?

Would love to hear your input!

Amy

How do you plan to travel around?

Car? Train?

Ideally train, but I'm ok renting a car as well. I'm guessing I would rent a car for Southern France and then train in Spain.

Are you flying home from Barcelona? Or do you need to get back to Nice?

I did a 10 or 12 day road trip several years ago from Nice to Barcelona and back. We stopped in Collioure, then stayed inland at a B&B near Peyrepertuse, and Tossa de Mar in Spain. On the way back we spent 4 nights near Uzes, and 2 nights in Tourettes sur Loup.

The Cote d'Azur is ideal for a train based trip. Cannes,Nice,Antibes',Juan les Pins,Monaco are all on the same line with cheap regular commuter style services - all these famous places are no more than an hour at most from each other (e.g Cannes to Monaco). The only coastal place not in range is St Tropez (no train line here). The local trains terminate over the border in Italy -so that's another bonus -3 countries in one morning - France,Italy and Monaco.
