Calais to Marseillan Plage - A71 stop over?

Hi,

We are travelling by car to the Marseillan Plage in June 2015, we are looking to break the driving up by stopping over for the night in a hotel roughly half way.

Most routes are showing around 9 1/2 hours if we take the A71, can anyone recommend any areas or specific hotels roughly 5 - 6 hours into the trip?

Thanks

Clare

I always use Le Pont Neuf at Le Veurdre. The hotel has excellent rooms, nice food and - very useful if it is hot - an outdoor pool. Although strictly speaking it is in the Auvergne rather than in Burgundy (being the wrong side of the Allier river), Le Veurdre is a very typical small Bourbonnais village. It is reached by driving down the A77 autoroute from Paris (which is the quietest of the southbound autoroutes) to what is currently its southern end south of Nevers and then the village is an easy cross-country 10km run. The next morning you head cross-country for the A71 near Montluçon which takes no more than half-an-hour.
