Travelling from Calais to Italy via Alsace

We are looking for a pretty town/village in Alsace for a two-night stopover en route to Tuscany. We have stayed in Colmar a couple of times and, whilst it's lovely, we thought of trying somewhere different this year. I have looked at Obernai and Riquewihr which both look quite picturesque, but would welcome some input from any of you who know the region well

Gerardmer is rather nice, with its lakeside setting.....

I suggest Kaysersberg. It's a very small and pretty town set by a small river and I like the hilly (partly woods, partly vineyard) surroundings. Bigger than Riquewihr and also touristy, but more of a 'real' place.
