Paris to Bordeaux

Hi all, what is the best way of getting from Paris to Bordeaux and return back to Paris?

Is train the best way?

How expensive would it be?

thanks

The Paris-Bordeaux TGV high-speed train is by far your best bet. It is fast--center of town to center of town in three hours; it runs frequently--there's a train leaving Gare Montparnasse every two hours, on average; it is (relatively) cheap--depending on if you want a refundable or non-refundable ticket, the price can vary. For non-refundable tickets, the price hovers around 60-70 euros, one way.

Take the train.

One more vote for the train. As said above, very convenient since you travel from downtown to downtown. Plus the SNCF is IMO one of the best in the world.

We travelled one way from Bordeaux to Paris off peak hours last June and it cost us about 55 euros each.

thank you for the information.

the train still sounds expensive when you convert euros to the Australian dollar.

Is there a coach service from Paris to Bordeaux?

Take a look at Eurolines:

I used them to go from Bordeaux to London about ten years ago. It's long, but it is inexpensive.

You can do Paris - Bordeaux by train for around €40 one-way if you reserve far enough in advance or use the iDTGV trains which have special internet only fares. As for the cost, don't forget that Paris - Bordeaux is not far short of 600km or 375 miles in English money and to do that journey in 3 hours I'm quite happy to pay €60 -€70 let alone €40!

€60 = AUSD 97.6

I lived in Paris for two years and visited the region frequently…The train is a good choice, but if you want to see France, hire a car and drive. Purchase a good map and get off the main motorways. Take your time and enjoy the experience as there are many extraordinary towns and villages along the route.

Best of luck,

It's possible to drive the price down to 25 euros one way for a "PREMS" ticket - but you need to be really organised and booking this 2 months+ in advance. BUT SNCF also do last minute deals, also cheap - thse come up on the net 2-3 days before departure.
