Bordeaux to San Sebastien

I have about 8-10 days to travel ard Bordeaux Region and SW France.( late Aug ) Am thinking about starting in Bordeaux( spend a couple of days there ) drive down to San Sebastien stopping off Arcachon area, Biaritz etc.

Can anyone suggest the best scenic or interesting route ? Can this drive be done at a comfortable pace, and for example is there a different route heading down ( Bordeaux to San Sebastien ) and a potential different route on the return ?? Any suggestions ( towns, restaurants, scenic landmarks etc ) or a potential plan would be great as i have very little info on this region. Appreciate any responses. Merci

Depending on how much time you wish to spend, try to hug the coastline as much as possible. The D652 will take you from Arcachon (Dune du Pyla) to places like Navarosse and Biscarosse through the pine forests and large lakes of Landes. When you get to Hossegor and Capbreton you can pick up the motorway to San Sebastian via Bayonne.

And then as an alternative to the coast route, on the way back a nice idea might be to go through the Pyrenees and inland. How about a route like this: http://g.co/maps/2cc8j

We did the Route through Biarritz & St Jean De Luz

Stayed in Hondarribia, Spain ( not far from St Jean de Luz) Lovely walled town surrounded by an inlet.

From there we went to Bilbao, St Sebastian & also did 1/2 day in Pamplona, but not all in 1 day.

Hotel Jaurequi was a lovely 3 star hotel, breakfast was excellent...approx 5 E PP, we also did the dinner plan @ approx 20E PP 4 course meal w/ wine indoor garage about 2 blocks away, don't remember the cost, wasn't outrageous.

From there we went on to Santander...Hotel Cique( 3 star) on the water.

Santander also beautiful..............

I second NYCinque's choice of Hotel Jauregui in Hondarribia. It's a nice hotel with a good restaurant/bar and it's also close to one of the best bars in Hondarribia, Bar Gran Sol, winner of many pintxo competitions.

I recently did a time lapse video of the BIarritz to San Sebastian route: biarritzairporttransfers.com/Biarritz-to-San…

Or if you decide to go cross country then I also did a video going from Biarritz and over the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles (via Saint Jean Pied de Port): biarritzairporttransfers.com/Biarritz-to-Sai…
