2 nights in Bordeaux

Hey all,

Planning a trip for August and plan to be in Bordeaux for 2 nights.

Are the Chateau's and wineries just outside Bordeaux doable on foot or by bike? Or is it best by renting a car for the day or by bus transportation?

Thanks

Depends which chateau. Some villages are reached fairly easily by train, but anywhere more than a few miles from the city has very little in the way of bus service apart from those for work and school.

There are numerous chateaux near Pauillac for example, which has a train from Bordeaux every 1 - 2 hours but the chateaux are some miles out of town in areas with no bus service at all.

Regional train and bus information can be found via this TA page tripadvisor.com/Travel-g187076-c1911/Aquitai… most information is only in French.

Bordeaux city transit information at www.infotbc.com available partly in English.

If you decide to rent a car, keep in mind that France has very strict laws regarding drinking and driving.

In the vicinity of Bordeaux we liked the two locks Shateau de Roquetaillade and Shateau de azheneve. In castles guided tours and tastings. Information about castles http://chateauroquetaillade.free.fr/ or http://djanga.ru/2013/12/2-bordo-aquitania/

Castle Shateau de Roquetaillade bus ride, ride about 40 minutes.
