one night stay

We will be travelling by car from Lyon to Sarlat la caneda in mid June and are trying to decide whether to overnite at Clermont-Ferrand or Le Mont Dore or La Bourboule. Do you need to be fluent in French to appreciate the educational centers on the volcanos? Any tips on hotels or restaurants? Thanks for any information anyone can share

Clermont is a big city (200 000) and La Bourboule (which I prefer) are village.

Both Mont dore and Bourboule are spa city/village.

Clermont in nr the puy de dome which you might like to visit or to Vulcania the theme park around vulcano which is nice.

You could also consider Chatel guyon which is a bit nicer to my taste.

Or Vichy which is really cute and nicer than clermont.

Hope this will help

We stopped at a Le Couli in Saint Pierre le chastel and had a very pleasant stay,it is out in the countryside so quiet and peaceful. They have a website so you could have a look and see what you think.
