August in Brittany with 2 small kids

Hi . Myself and my wife and 2 children (18 months and new born) are planning a holiday in Brittany this August. We are considering hiring self catering accomodation or possibly mobile home/chalet in a campsite. We would really appreciate any advice on campsites/websites/selfcatering options in Brittany, ideally in the Lorient region

Hi There,

We've stayed with KeyCamp in Picardy and Normandy with our 3 kids (5-13) - so if there is any information I can provide on Key Camp/Mobile Home Holidays get back to me.

Thanks for the feedback. We have found a camp site called La Foret in Southern Brittany that seems pretty good on the web. If anybody has been there or could recommend any particular campsite we would be very grateful. Thanks

Try www.cheznous.com for self catering. They will send you a very thick brochure, very user friendly. They have homes all across France, which are divided by regions in the brochure. You contact the owners yourself. Some have websites, others have faxes, others have to be called. Most live in England. We have booked twice from their brochure.

I have been to about a dozen campsites in Brittany with Eurocamp - staying in a mobile home. I love the place more than anywhere else on earth and hope to live there one day.

The best campsite that I've been on which would be suitable for little children would be Raguenes Plage (look at Eurocamp website) - quiet and sweet and walking distance to a lovely little beach.

My favourite areas personally are on the north coast - around St Cast or Perros Guirrec as they are proper traditional seaside resorts - but without any tackiness.

Near St Cast are two main sites - I liked them both.

Perros is a good choice if you are taking the Roscoff crossing - in my view the beaches there are unbeatable.

I know Brittany very well so if you narrow your search down at all, I may be able to offer more detailed advice.

By the way, I have stayed in Brittany Ferries gites a few times also and everything was good.

Thanks. We are considering south west Brittany. Touring from Lorient to Brest. Have reserved a spot in La Foret campsite (through Carisma holidays). Any advice on this area or in particular any views on this campsite would be great. JC

Hiya

Eurocamp and Keycamp offer plenty of campsites in Brittany- many of them "toddler friendly" which would be ideal for you- generally quieter, away from main roads, suitable and safe pitches for young children, and they provide cots, highchairs etc...

Try eurocamp.co.uk or keycamp.co.uk for a look at their sites/ accomodation and a brochure. You can also search for these "toddler friendly" sites on the websites

Eurocamp offer more choice in the range on sites in France, however Keycamp is a much more "british" company

Just looking at the eurocamp brochure there are 6+ toddler friendly sites spread around brittany

Hi,

am also travelling with small baby, but this time to Benodet.

Have been to Foret before. The campsite is on a slope and some of the terraces are moderately steep, so if there is such a thing as a quiet, and relatively flat spot try and request that. Having said that, my 4 year old went flying down the terrace gave me a heart attack , but htought it was great fun. It was all I could do to try and get her to stop showing off her new trick.

You will have a good time... if you can buy a cheapo butterfly net and a bucket and spade here it will be good for the rockpools, they do seem to put the costs up in France because they have a captive audience.

Also - I am buying one of those cheapy pop-up sun tents from Asdas 19.00 or so - they seem to be very good. Lastly, the mozzies are ferocious at Foret, but this is partly because of the beatiful location. either buy a mozzie net for your stroller or mothercare sell arm/leg bands for about £3.00 which they swear work. These can be put around the side of the cot or your stroller. They only work for about 120 hours but you put them away during the day. No idea if they do work or not but I hope so as I cannot find anthing else for a 4 month old. Have fun...

I'm not sure what kind of accomadations you want but it would be worth checking out the Moulin du Couffon in Guissey. we just returned from 5 nights there. it's really amazing. they do have some rooms with small kitchens. the location is perect.
