peaceful place to spend two or three days near the coast?

We want to spend a few days in a b & b, relaxing and walking in Brittany next month. We don't know this part of France and wonder if anyone can recommend somewhere near, or on an interesting/scenic stretch of coast. We're not looking for beaches or places suitable for a family holiday.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you.

We have visited Brittany twice now and find it has a huge variety of places to see, from prehistoric sights like the alignments at Carnac to the beautiful church enclosures with their carved granite calvaries, often very extensive, with the interior of the churches very old and beautifully carved and decorated. There is the rose granite coast with its huge pink boulders, little villages with houses that look Cornish or Irish. This trip we stayed at Douarenenez at a B&B on the coastal walk and near the Sablons Blanc and took ourselves off on day trips to Baie des Trepasses, Point du Raz (the most westerly, with huge currents) and on the way there we visited the huge stone statues in the Valley of the Saints.

Have a look at the area around Cap Frehel as well, it is wonderful for walking.

Hello, you can find really different landscapes all along the coast in Brittany. To make it very short, the southern coast (Morbihan) is usually a bit sunnier with seaside resorts a bit more lively, while the northern one can be wilder. Anyway you will enjoy great strolls and find b&b everywhere. The gulf of Morbihan, around Vannes, is a good option. And so are Finistere (Cornouaille in the south, Leon in the north), granit rose coast, are around Cap Frehel if you want more dramatic landscapes.

We cannot heap enough praise on Patrick Gillot's chambre d'hote in Landement, a few km east of Lorient. The property is beautiful, rooms very comfortable. But the real draw, other than location, is the table d'hote evening meal. Patrick was chef at Paris' Laperouse. His food is simple but perfectly prepared and abundant. Produce is from their extensive garden. Book WAY ahead because this is an international destination, which means also that conversation around the table is lively. English is spoken by the hosts.
