Canal boat ends in Migennes, but where to go next for 2 days

We are hiring a canal boat for 4 nights and finish at Migennes. We only have 2 days and need to travel to Vienna afterwards, probably from Paris (but all suggestions very welcome please.)

We would like to see a little more of Burgundy, but also want to relax as we have a busy itinerary afterwards. Maybe a chateau stay or should we venture to Dijon?

Thanks

Will you have a car?

If you want to see a little more of Burgundy, you could travel to Beaune, Chalons sur Saone or Macon in less than 2.5 hours or to Lyon a bit further south. However, you don't say where you are joining your canal boat and so you may be backtracking.

if you need to return to Paris, then Troyes is an option. It is north east of Migennes and within 1.5 hours by train to Paris.

HI ,

Thanks for your reply Pamjo.

We weren't thinking of hiring a car as we were going to get around by train and buses. But, if you think that we will be missing out with not having a car, then it is something that we could consider.

We are starting and ending our short 4 day canal trip at Migennes.

We are visiting Paris for a couple of nights before the trip and taking the train from there. After the trip we will have a couple of days in Burgundy before travelling to Vienna (for a 10 day tour.) Would it be best to return to Paris to fly to Vienna? Or fly from somewhere else in France. The train from France to Vienna looks like it may take too long?

Appreciate all advice - thanks.

The train journey from Paris is over 19hrs. If you were to travel by train from, say, Lyon, that would still take over 13 hours. IMO if you are short of time, I would fly. I suggest you have a look at flights out of a town/city in Burgundy rather than having to backtrack to Paris.

Thanks for info. I have been looking at other towns/villages in Burgundy. Is there a place that you can recommend please, that would be good to fly out of and visit for a couple of days?
