Walking Itinerary Suggestions (Beaune, Cote d'Or)

My husband and I would like to take a walking tour through Burgundy. We would like to start and finish in Beaune.

We have 3 days/2 nights. We would love to walk to another village, spend the night, walk again the next day, spend another night away, and then return to Beaune. We are willing to take a taxi or train during part of our trip, but mostly we would love to walk.

We estimate that we can comfortably walk the following distances.

Day #1 9-14 miles

Day #2 9-14 miles

Day #3 5-8 miles (we need to return to Beaune by early afternoon)

Any suggestions? We also need advice on hotels, restaurants and stops (wineries) during our walk.

Thanks so much!

The writer for my Côte d'Or guides who lives in the area recommends the following for walks:

"there are two useful booklets with descriptions and maps, in French and in English. Promenades en pays Beaunois (circuits nord) or Promenades en pays Beaunois (circuits sud) each costing €7.55 from the Syndicat Touristique Intercommunal du Pays Beaunois in Beaune Tel: 03 80 24 20 75 or Email: paysbeaunois@wanadoo.fr. The Beaune tourist office will help."

Once you've figured out where you want to walk, then you can work out places to stay and restaurants, though only a few villages have hotels, so you will need to plan carefully.

you need to think about the logistics=who will carry your luggage from one location to another

this can be done by taxi

the region is pretty hilly

avoid walking on the main route nationale 74 which dangerous

you have plenty of quiet roads in the back country

you are better off being dropped by taxi where the proper walk starts

you have a nice walk starting from pommard taking you to saint romain, orches, and la roche pot

pretty hilly

use the phone near the mairie (get a phone card) to get your taxi to come back for you

wait at relais de chateau as a pick up point

another walk starts in meursault,to puligny, chassagne to finish in santenay-flat

use maison d'olivier leflaive for a tasting lunch-you need to book

another walk starts in vosne romanee,to continue to vougeot, chambolle, morey to finish in gevrey-flat
