Cycling in December?

I was very excited to see a previous question about renting a bike in Reims. We would love to do some cycling in the area....but how cold is it really in December? If we get a sunny winters day, will we cope with the cold?

Hmmn....

Really NOT trying to be funny, but how will anyone but you know if you can cope with the cold?

There are plenty of Europeans who still cycle in the winter, so it is POSSIBLE (though I would not recommend it if it snows)...

Cycling tends to warm you up, but Cape Town is much warmer than "here" so it depends how good you are at acclimatising...

Certainly "worth a try", maybe if you are going to Paris first, try a Velib bike and see how you manage?

Completely agree with EW - it depends on how you can cope with cold.

Fog/heavy mist is also something to watch out for. I was once in the Reims area in late autumn when the fog was really heavy in the early morning and potentially dangerous on the roads. But the fog lifted around 10.30am when it became beautifully sunny.

Bear in mind that whatever the weather daylight hours are very limited in December, so if you give it a go even on a nice day it's best not to be too ambitious about what you can cover before it gets dark.

If you can handle the temp and it's dry and there's no black ice on the road then go cycling if you feel up to it.
