Train to Reims and some bubbly!

Hello All

My soon-to-be husband and I are planning our honeymoon and could use some help. We will be in Paris for a few days and would like to take the train to Reims to tour some champagne houses. We looked into taking guided tours from Paris but with a $400+ per person price tag, I can't really justify it.

We are interesting in visiting two or more houses and possibly Notre Dame where the kings had been crowned. Has anyone does this? Can we catch a taxi from the train station to a house and start touring? I understand we should make reservations, what's the best houses to see? Are they within walking distance?

Thank you in advance and happy travels!

It depends how far you like walking? Most of the houses are a 20-30 minute walk from the station.

Easy to organise yourself via email.

For me, the best of the Reims houses open to the public are: Ruinart, Taittinger, Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin, Pommery, Lanson, Charles de Cazanove (almost next door to the station) and Mumm.

If you want to try some fantastic independent champagne houses who generally produce far more interesting wines then pop to the shop Caves des Sacres which is immediately in front and to the right of the cathedral when standing facing the front.
