Family-friendly hotel in Algajola, Corsica

The (London) Times has today named this hotel as one of the most family-friendly in the Mediterranean. Does anyone have any experience to back this up or cast doubt on the rating? Any other feedback on any of Algajola's hotels and their suitability (and that of the Algajola beach) for a young family (4 and 1) would be very much appreciated. We are considering it as a quiter alternative to Calvi, which we love but where family-friendly accommodation close-ish to the beach seems to be scarce (unless you know different....)

Thanks in advance.

What was the name of the hotel ?

When our children were little, we holidayed in Calvi every year for the simple reason it offered everything we needed including a very good beach for sandcastles (excellent sand for that !) and shallow calm water for the children.

We visited Algajola every year and had pizza under the shady trees in the square, but it somehow never matched Calvi - just too quiet for us - and the sand on the main beach is very gritty and not suitable for sandcastles. This beach also shelves quite steeply so you would need to be careful with that.

However living in London the peace of Algajola may be just what you need, we are all different. Otherwise, have you looked at the A Merula apartments in Calvi which seem to get good reviews and are not far from the beach. Hotel wise I have only stayed at the St. Christophe and the Caravelle both of which are more geared up to adults really.

Thanks for that. What you say about the beach probably rules it out. Calvi beach is, as you say, wonderful for kids. We'll probably try to find somewhere there.

The name of the hotel was L'Ondine - sorry for omitting that!!

A quieter alternative to Calvi with white sand beaches and calm turquoise water would be just south of Porto Vecchio, Santa Guilia, St. Cyprien, Palombaggia area. A travel reviewer in the Daily Telegraph recently recommended a family hotel in St. Cyprien (Ciprianu), it sounded good, might be worth looking at their website.

With a 1 year old and a 4 year old your holiday requirements will be different to a lot of people who advise on this forum (us included !), we may need to cast our minds back a bit on this one !

The beach at Calvi is much better suited for children. Algajola beach can be dangerous.
