I just discovered that the NYT has a really good online guide to the Louvre, including info about the various collections, with lots of photos. I didn't read the whole thing, but it's worth bookmarking.

Wonderful thank you! One tip I can offer is to get hold of a map of the louvre before you go and orient yourselves to how the museum is set up- it is easy to get turned around and disoriented and knowing what you want to see and where you need to go is very helpful. Also there are lockers for your things, use them as the interior can be quite warm with the crowds...
