Finance charge on overseas credit card purchases

How much is yours?

Just wondering if 3% was pretty conventional.

Thanks!

1. Re: Finance charge on overseas credit card purchases

There's the 'finance charge' which is the APR you are charged on all purchases, cash adv, etc.

Then there's the 1% Visa fee for foreign transactions - very rare for a credit card or check card to avoid this fee.

Then there's the 2-3% bank charge for "international transactions" that most banks have recently added, exceptions limited to: CapitalOne, USAA, and credit unions

Some banks had been assessing that all along - MBNA was one to join the ranks this spring.

I bought train tickets online for France and was charged 3 % over the 'exchange' rate listed on Yahoo Finance... (Compass Bank Visa).
