Hi Inna, Is there any indication yet when the dispute behind the strikes is likely to be resolved?

General meetings will be held on Monday morning to decide what is next. Unions don't agree with budgets cuts for museums AND also that for each two people that will retire next year only one will be replaced.

Hi Faux, no indication yet, they're calling today's openings a "pause" and a "gesture towards the public".

It's like yymca6 said, meetings are set for tomorrow.

Hi Inna and YMCA

Is it still too early for a result from those meetings?

YMCA that is bad news about replacing two people with one!

I realise that this might not be a question anyone could answer/predict, but, do you think it would be likely that these strikes will continue or be revived again (if everything starts to settle down) in early January?

Many thanks to everyone for your amazing help so far, and many thanks in advance!

As you suggest I don't think anyone can predict what may or may not happen in January any more than anyone can give you any real forecast of the weather during your visit. That said, one or two of the French news sites I have looked at suggest that the strike is running out of steam so I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you. The Pompidou seems to be the only "hot spot."

Speaking of the Pompidou, their web site indicates that people who have a pre-purchased ticket for days on which the museum was closed can use the same ticket for up to one month after its original date or can apply for a refund. This may not apply to anyone reading this thread as I don't think many TA readers buy advance tickets for the Pompidou, but you never know. In any case others who may be in the same situation with regard to other museums or monuments may also have the option of a refund. It can't hurt to send an email request. IIRC someone was asking the other day about a refund for pre-purchased Versailles tickets though I have lost track of the thread...

Hi Arisanosila,

Hopefully, it'll be settled soon.

Don't worry, the present situation is not a revival of the strike. The striking workers were clear about yesterday's openings being just a pause, an attempt to show their good will towards the public.

The strike continues.

Versailles Palace is open partially today, due to this ticket price is reduced.

D'Orsay Museum is open, but the striking workers try to block access to the ticket counter.
