Metro and Chartres SNCF Train Basics

Could someone walk me through how I get from the Opera Garnier to Montparnesse and onto the train to Chartres -- and back again?

No detail should be considered too basic --

Thanks for the help.

Bus line 95 is direct from Opéra to Montparnasse. You can't miss Montparnasse because it is the end of the line.

You will be right in front of the train station. Buy a ticket to Chartres from a machine. It is the last stop on a suburban line.

Do these two things in reverse to return to Opéra.

Is there any reason to pre-buy train tickets to Chartres?

Absolutely not. It is a local train without reservations and without discounts.

THANKS -- Do I pay the busdriver in cash, or do I buy a ticket somewhere else? Can I buy a ticket for Chartres one way and then one way back when I feel like going back to Paris?

How long should I allow to get from my hotel (at the Opera) to the bus, and how much time before the train should I plan on being at Montparnesse to buy the ticket and get on the train.

MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP
