4 days, 2 kids- best itinerary?

My family will be visiting Paris for the first time in Aug for 4 days, Thur-Sunday. Our children are 8 & 9. We would love to have any tips on the best days/times to visit certain attractions, and any other great advice on travel with kids. We'd like to spend a day (or half day?) at Versailles, which would be the best day for that? And is it better to try to see the popular sites on Thur or Friday, or will the weekend be better, since a lot of Parisians will be on vacation anyway? Just trying to make the most of the time we have. Main things we want to see/visit are Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe, Montemarte, Jardin de Luxemburg, Notre Dame, am i missing anything great?

Thanks!

Just returned a few weeks ago with our kids (13 & 8). There favorites: Catacombs, picnic at Eiffel Tower (picked up stuff on Rue Cler), climbing to top of Arc de Triomphe, Bateaux Mouches night cruise and bike tour with Bike About Paris. They also love stopping in cafes to rest and eat ice cream:-)) We had 4 full days in Paris and we were able to really relax and enjoy by alternating walking and taking the Metro.
