Palais Royal

We have an open day in our trip, and I thought it might be fun to explore something new --

Can anyone share thoughts on Palais Royal -- what can be seen, what the shops are like -- and any thoughts about places for a comfortable lunch?

Many thanks for all your help

The court of honour has an installation of black and white columns by Daniel Buren

Nearby is a gorgeous little arcade full of jewellers, leather handbags, clothes, curiosities, just great for window shopping, and a pretty enclosed garden where you can sit under the trees.

That restaurant you can see the sign for is a three michelin star place. At least one TA writer has eaten lunch there, lunch often being much cheaper than dinner, but as one of the oldest restaurants in France, and one of the best, it doesn't come cheaply even then. Reading the menu is free.

A word of caution, we were approached by a well dressed man here who deliberately bumped against my husband then apologised to me. We had to tell him quite forcefully to go away. I have no idea what his angle was.

There are several theatres in the vicinity and antiques in the place opposite the Hotel du Louvre. The entrance to the Metro near here is very decorative and deserves a photo.

A very nice 2 hour meander around here. I believe Angelinas Chocolate shop with snacks and some desserts to die for is just down the road that runs beside the Tuilleries.
