Customs when arriving by train

When arriving from Brussels by Thalys at Paris-nord is the customs process similiar to the airport ? How long would it take on average to disembark from the train and travel to the 5th district via RER B?

If you are traveling between Schengen countries there is no customs to go through. You would have already done that at the airport when you arrived from the US.

Does that include going from London to Brussels?

We've traveled Eurostar from London to both Brussels and Paris several times and never had to clear any type of customs or immigration. Simply grab your luggage as you get off the train and head out.

passport control occurs in London before you board the Eurostar to Europe and in Paris before you board the Eurostar for London -- if there is any customs, it occurs there also --

there is no passport control within Schengen

You did pass through immigration -- that's what was happening when you handed your passport to the clerks before you got on the Eurostar. They would have stamped your passport indicating the border crossing.
