In general, the usual pros and cons of bus/train/taxi.

If you could tell us where in Paris you are staying, we could provide a more meaningful view. "Central Paris" is several square miles.

Best option is Train. For several reasons. Taxis and bus both can be stuck in traffic, don't rely of them when you have a flight to catch. Also, taxis can be very expensive (EUR 60) or more at night. Train is the best option. I don't know how familiar are you with the Paris public transport system, but generally speaking, the city of paris is served by metro network (M) and a different network of trains, called 'RER' which extend to the outskirts also. The CDG airport is in the north eastern outskirts of city of paris and RER line B connects it to the city. See (http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/c_22213/rer-b/) for more information. The railway station is situated between the Terminal 2F and 2D in the airport and is on the lowest level.

Additional advice, if you are going to Paris as a tourist, you can buy VisiteParis pass (www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/c_21894/paris-visite/) for all 5 zones and that way you can use the RER B from airport to the city at no extra cost. Anyway, many of the attractions in Paris (Palace of Versailles, La Defense , Disneyland etc.) lie in the outskirts of city of Paris so your 5 zone pass will be useful.

All this information is with reference to my experience last year and some rules may have changed since then. So please be careful and inquire yourself before you make any payments.

Also make up of group is part of deciding what is best way to go, ,, with 4 people a taxi works out to only be a bit more, taking the RER would be about 40 euros,, so for 10-15 more euros you get door to door service with a taxi. Also, are there small kids or elderly ( less mobile) folks,, taxi is easiest. Then there is the luggage issue, you must be able to handle your own luggage, and there is the possibiltiy of having to carry your bags down long passages and up stairs in the metro system.

Best is purely a matter of personal choice.

If "best" refers to least stress and least faffing around, then go to the taxi line and take a taxi. It will go straight to your door, no transfers, no stops, no nonsense.

If "best" refers to cheapest, then the train might be the way to go -- as long as you don't mind wrangling your luggage up and down steps and escalators, on and off of a possibly crowded train, and making the transfers -- with no porters.

If "best" means inexpensive but low on the pita factor, then perhaps the bus would be your best option. The luggage is loaded for you, and you'll be dropped at any of a half-doze stops around the city. From there you can catch an inexpensive bus to your final destination.

It all comes down to the combination of cost, time, and physical effort that works best for YOU.

If you are from New York City, you should definitely take the train. It is about 1/5 the cost and gets you there just as quick. Just check with your hotel and they will tell you what train to take and where to get off.

The only thing that would change by opinion would be if you have a lot of luggage, you have to carry it up stairs on your own in the metro stations.
