We are looking for a fairly central place in Paris for a family of 4 on a budget - staying for 3 nights over new year - any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

Be advised that family accommodations are a bit of a challenge, especially at this late date and over the holidays, and much will depend on your "budget".

Search this forum for "family rooms" and "quads" for an extensive list of possiblities.

The holidays are when you're apt to find the highest prices for accommodations in Paris, both apartments and hotels. Maybe have a look at centreparis.com if you'd consider an apartment. If you want a hotel, in general the farther you get from the center of the city, the less prices will be.

Hi like you we needed family accommodation for Paris and in the end we have booked an apartment with a company called airbnb - it a company where owners rent out their own house or apartment or even rooms, we havent been yet, but have been very impressed with the communication from the owner - it was also a huge amount cheaper than having two rooms in a hotel for us.

We go in August so I can report back then.

It may be worth a look at the website for you and your family.

..just a reminder. In Paris when room are advertized as 1, 2, or 3 persons they are for 1, 2, or 3 humans whether newborn to 90. There are no rollaways , an extra child cuddling up to Mom, or a crib allowed unless discussed and booked as such when reservations are made. I know to a North American, this is not the norm and can result in a lot of misunderstanding and potential disaster so be warned..though perhaps this is not the case in New Zealand.
