Is it best to book things before you travel?

Hey,

We are off to Paris for 3 nights this weeek.

Just wondering if it's best to book metro, River seine, bus tours, Louvre tickets beforehand?

We want to get the best value for money possible.

We've joined a city walking tour for our first morning so any other hints and tips would be much appreciated.

I don't believe there is any sort of advance purchase discount for the items and places you mentioned.

the major advantage is that you may be able to avoid the queues at some places eg eiffel and louvre and for the cruise http://www.vedettesdupontneuf.com/ offers online discount.

For the river cruise you can just show up a bit in advance (20-30 min.) and get tics on the spot. If you intend to go on the Vedettes du Pont-Neuf cruise, there is a discount for tickets purchased on-line through official website, tics are valid for a year from date of purchase.

There is no point in pre-buying transportation tickets and passes. For bus tours it depends on which ones, for hop/on hop/off it's best to get tics from bus driver.

For the Louvre, just don't use the Pyramid entrance which gets long queues.

Thanks for your responses, much appreciated.

We just want to make the most of our time there. With so many different website selling tickets, the prices vary dramatically!

you will always get the best price by buying them from the actual site in Paris whether it is buying transport tickets from a metro station or tickets for the Louvre -- the sites that sell them on line 'with different prices' are middlemen taking their cut
