Paris to Lille by train??

Hi i am staying in Paris late May next year, I want to watch a football game and it looks like Lille v St Ettiene on the 26th of May is my best option.

Would it be possible to catch the train to Lille in the morning watch the game (not sure what time game is i think 1:00pm) then catch the train back to Paris at night??

Yes. For the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Tickets go on sale 3 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets often sell out quickly. Prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs, and make bookings, in English at www.tgv-europe.com/en but use Antarctic as the "Ticket collection country" in the first screen to avoid being transferred to RailEurope, which has higher prices and does not list all the trains. Yes, it's only an hour by train. Be careful to look at your return ticket (when you get it) to see if it is from Lille-Flandres or Lille-Europe -- the stations are 400 meters from each other. Leaving from Gare du Nord, no problem, because you'll still arrive in downtown Lille at either station.

If the game is at 1pm then your plan seems perfectly feasible.

Most matches are in the evening so it may be worth double checking your timing.

Thanks for the responses have been looking into the game start time but keep getting different answers, could anyone confirm the kick off time??

If the start time is in the evening it may be worth just spending the night in Lille and getting the train back to Paris in the morning.

Any help much appreciated organizing travel plans is a bit of a love hate relationship haha

I checked the site of the Lille team and on the ticketing part (which is not selling tickets that far ahead anyway), most of the matches say "exact date and time not yet validated by the football league."

That's because interest in televised matches builds over the season depending on the ranking of the teams. To avoid two top matches taking place at the same time, the dates and times can be modified to satisfy the fans. It looks like this happens about one month before a given match.
