I made a rather spontaneous decision to book a stopover in Paris on the way home from a long trip to South Africa. In hindsight it may have been a mistake given we will have a suitcase full of "hot weather" clothes, and travelling light...but Paris at any time is not a mistake right? This is a first visit to the city (well second, but the first was decades ago - doesn't count!). We will want to see as many of the "top ten" tourist sights in 4 days....strolling streets, not so much on this visit.
Now to my dilemma......the weather is going to be a big question mark.....so normally we could stay anywhere and walk our soles off. We likely won't have the clothing for it. Initially I thought to stay in the Marais district but given that it's March I am not sure we'll be dressed for wandering the streets. I believe that having a Metro very closeby will be a priority. Budget is a consideration, although if I nail down a convenient area I will search for a hotel or apartment in our moderate price range. Also, we land at 7 AM so I am hoping we can make arrangements to "check in", or at least park the luggage and change and then head out....we usually do a hop on hop off round trip on our first visit to any city, and after an all night flight that's probably about right for day 1!
Does anyone have a tip or suggestion as to where we should base ourselves, given the above? Much appreciated!!
