Con Artist stealing information

It is one thing to be on alert for people offering a gold ring and then trying to get money for it, this happened to me on the Seine. One of the latest scams is where young men selling trinkets will walk up to you with a scanning device that might look like a cell phone and they will up load all of your info from your wallet like your passport, credit cards or whatever else they can get from you. Beware of this type of cybercrime.

In other words "beware of young men bearing trinkets" ....

When a younger person(anyone under 55 that doesn't look totally wasted..). that approaches me in the street looks as if she/he will "sell/ give" me something, I stare hard at them and say " I am jealous of your beautiful face"

999.99% of the time they run away at warp speed...

>>they can't scan a passport<<

They just might be able to scan the RFID chip contained in Australian passports issued from around 2009.

I presume that everyone has heard about the 'kidney thieves' on the métro? Apparently they are out-of-work surgeons who can remove a kidney without you knowing about it in a couple of minutes. It is passed to the accomplice with the refrigerated box and then it is sold on for thousands of euros. (Fair play to them, they only ever take one kidney, so the 'donor' can continue to function)

*they are easily identifiable by their distinctive foil headwear.

Possibly an aid to making a false passport in my name?

I don't know, but it seems to be something that greatly excites some people.

Passports - issued later than 1743 - are a little bit more complex than a picture, a name and a signature.. There is so many easy ways to get personnal info about people (Facebook !) that really, scanners of info or CC are not the main threat you can encounter !
