Dinner before the Louvre

Hi - we are two women who will be in Paris during first week in April. We plan to do a return visit to the Louvre late afternoon Wednesday, to go into the evening. Does anyone have a suggestion for a restaurant close to the Louvre that would serve a mid-afternoon (about 3 p.m.) lunch that would hold us over until later in the evening? Prefer French/continental cuisine. Thanks so much!

You will not find a proper restaurant open at 3 pm. However, all along Rue de Rivoli there are assorted bistros and snack bars catering for tourists that will sell you food. Don't expect it to be very good.

I had a late lunch at Cafe Marly, overlooking the Pyramid. Food was ok, prices high, but worth it for the view.

There is Le Nemours. Here are some reviews. Really close, good food, excellent service.

If you don't mind walking a few hundred meters, there is Au Pied de Cochon at the north-west corner of Les Halles, open 24/7: http://www.pieddecochon.com/

Three is when lunch ends, so if you can make it a little earlier, say 2pm, instead, you'd have a much better choice.

Le Fumoir is real close and serves lunch till 3pm, then it remains open for drinks until dinner.

For quiches cheese cold meats try la Cloche des Halles.

Thanks so much everyone! If we want a snack later on in the Louvre, any recommendations about their cafes?

There is a wine bar on the tip of Ile De la Cite called Taverne Henry IV. They will serve you fairly substantial cheese/meat/snacks plates and very good wine. It's close to the Louvre, generally of the tourist path and very reasonably priced. I've been there several times and the staff could not be nicer.
