Champs Elysee to CDG

We do not need to worry about transportation when we arrive in Paris, as our landlord provides limo pick-up service for her guests. However, we want to use public transit for our departure. This will involve taking the M1 line from Franklin D Roosevelt station to Chatelet-Les Halles, and then transferring to the RER B line. Our flight to Canada leaves at 1:30 PM, so we won't be taking the transit in rush hour. When I use the RATP inter-active route planner, it shows the route as M1 - M4 - RER B, with a very short duration on the M4 between Chatelet and Les Halles. This is confusing to me, would we not just walk from the M1 to the RER B in the underground station which connects Chatelet and Les Halles stations? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

You can walk if you like from M1 to RER B at Châtelet. The planner is simply showing you the fastest option with the least amount of walking. As you will be in Paris, most likely using the public transportation system before you depart, you´ll have a much better understanding of these options when you actually need to decide which works better for you.

Thanks. My understanding was that there were moving sidewalks and you stay below ground at all times, no need to exit the system and then re-enter. Is this correct?

Either way you decide to travel, you will stay within the network which is all underground at Châtelet. There are long stretches of moving sidewalks but they move very slowly and most people simply walk them. Still, the moving sidewalks are only an option on part of the total distance to reach the RER from M1.

All this will become very clear once you spend several days in Paris.

An alternative would be to take the Metro to Charles de Gaulle Etoile, and the Air France bus from there to CDG airport.
